2020-21 Lottery and Application Dates

The 2020-21 Application is now open.  The Application can be found under “Applying for 2020-21” below.  The application will be open from September 30th, 2019-February 14th, 2020.  All applicants listed on the 2020-21 application will be included in the lottery.

Tours

It is important that you get to know our school before you apply so that you can determine if it is a good fit for your child.  It is strongly encouraged that you tour the school on one of the tour dates provided during the year.  Please do not assume that you will not get a seat and forego a tour. Tours are not provided outside the planned school year tour dates, so it is important to attend on a scheduled tour date before the tours end for the year.  Tours provide an overview of the school programs as well as a tour of the physical space.  There are also opportunities to ask questions. Tours typically last 45 minutes-1 hour.

Tour Dates:

It is recommended that children second grade age and younger remain home during the tour if possible. Our elementary tour is adult focused, and young children tend to become restless.

Upper school students (rising 5 and up) and older elementary students (rising 4) are encouraged to attend the tours.

Sibling Preference

Siblings of current students do not go on the application.  Rather, TES sends a “Sibling Notification Form” in December to current TES families.  Families use this form to notify TES of siblings for the following year.  Siblings are placed before the lottery in seats that are available. If a seat in a particular grade is not available, then siblings are listed first on the wait list ahead of lottery applicants.

SIBLINGS OF CURRENT TES STUDENTS: As stated in the Enrollment and Lottery Policy,

“Siblings of currently enrolled students receive preference in lottery for the following year.  Siblings will be placed prior to opening the lottery to the public so long as the sibling application is received by the published deadline for sibling applications. If there are more siblings than spaces open in the school, a lottery will be held for the siblings prior to the public lottery.

    • The definition of a sibling according to current law includes: half-siblings, step-siblings and children residing in a family foster care home.”

      Applying for 2020-21:

The application for the 2020-21 school year is now open and linked below.  All applications must be submitted by midnight on February 14th, 2020.

Anyone domiciled in NC may apply.  Attendance at the school is free of charge. Once you apply by clicking the link above, your child will be added to the application list.  If we get more applicants than seats, a lottery will be held on Friday, February 21st, 2020 at 9:30AM at the school.

Seats Available for the 2020-21 School year: Kindergarten will have the most open seats for any given year.  Grades 1st-6th may each have a handful of seats that open up each year.  It is rare to have seats open in 7th and 8th grade.

If  Your Child Receives a Seat

If your student has been placed in a seat in The Expedition School via our student lottery or because your child is a sibling of a current TES student, you will need to complete the necessary Enrollment Forms in order to enroll. Enrollment Forms are found by clicking below.  Siblings of current TES students will automatically receive a seat, IF space is open in the necessary grade.

Enrollment forms are due within 5 days of receipt of the enrollment notification email.
